My challange is to paddle for 24 hours on the River Forth near Stirling in order to raise awareness and money for a disease called PSP (Progressive nuclear palsy).
It's a disease which affects the nerves in the brain and results in loss of mobility, speech, difficulty in swallowing, problems with eye movements and sight. There is no treatment or cure and it is progressive over time with sufferers often bed ridden and tube fed in the end. It is also often misdiagnosed as Parkinsons. The PSP association is a support group which aims to raise money for research and also support sufferers and their carers. My Mum has this disease and is the reason I have got involved.
So far doing well and totting up the hours in the boat on the beautiful River Forth, passing the local seal who lives way up river.
On Sat 24th I am going to canoe for 12 hours from 5am to 5pm as a training run and also will raise money for Sportsrelief. This will give me an idea as to how I am doing and whether its achievable to do this challange in June as I hope.
